Our Commitment to You
At Gateway to Africa every piece we create is handcrafted by skilled artisans in Nigeria using authentic African textiles including Ankara, Aso Oke, and Kente cloth. Each garment is individually inspected before it leaves our warehouse to ensure it meets our luxury standards of quality, craftsmanship, and cultural authenticity. Your satisfaction is our priority and we stand behind every piece we create.
Returns
We accept returns within 14 days of the delivery date. To be eligible for a return your item must meet the following conditions:
- Item is unworn, unwashed, and unaltered
- Item is in its original condition with all tags attached
- Item is returned in its original Gateway to Africa branded packaging
- Item is not a final sale or custom made piece
Because our garments are handcrafted in limited quantities we are unable to accept returns on items that show signs of wear, alteration, or damage caused after delivery.
How to Initiate a Return
To begin the return process please contact our customer service team at returnsandrefunds@shopgatewaytoafrica.com within 14 days of receiving your order. Include the following in your message:
- Your full name
- Your order number
- The item you would like to return
- The reason for your return
- A photo of the item showing its current condition
Our team will respond within 48 hours during business hours — Monday through Saturday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Standard Time — with return instructions and a return authorization number.
Please do not ship items back without receiving a return authorization number first. Unauthorized returns will not be accepted.
Return Shipping
Because Gateway to Africa ships internationally from Nigeria to customers in the United States and worldwide please note the following regarding return shipping:
- Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the item is defective or the wrong item was received
- We strongly recommend using a trackable shipping method for all returns as Gateway to Africa is not responsible for items lost in transit during the return process
- Original shipping charges are non-refundable
Refunds
Once your return is received and inspected by our team we will notify you by email within 5 business days of the status of your refund.
If your return is approved your refund will be processed to your original payment method within 7 to 10 business days depending on your bank or credit card provider.
Please note that processing times may vary and some financial institutions may take additional time to post the refund to your account.
Exchanges
We are happy to offer exchanges on eligible items within 14 days of delivery for a different size or color where inventory is available. Because our collections are produced in limited quantities of 100 to 250 pieces exchanges are subject to availability.
To request an exchange contact us at exchanges@shopgatewaytoafrica.com with your order number, the item you would like to exchange, and the size or color you would like in return. Our team will confirm availability and provide next steps.
Defective or Incorrect Items
At Gateway to Africa every garment undergoes a thorough quality control inspection before shipping. However if you receive an item that is defective, damaged, or different from what you ordered we sincerely apologize and will make it right immediately.
Please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order at support@shopgatewaytoafrica.com with:
- Your order number
- A clear photo of the defect or incorrect item
- A brief description of the issue
For defective or incorrect items Gateway to Africa will cover all return shipping costs and offer you the choice of:
- A full refund to your original payment method
- A replacement item if available
- Store credit for the full value of the item
Final Sale Items
The following items are final sale and are not eligible for return or exchange:
- Custom made or personalized pieces
- Items marked as final sale at the time of purchase
- Items purchased during special promotional events where final sale terms are clearly stated
Waitlist and Pre-Launch Orders
For customers who purchase during our exclusive waitlist early access launch period the standard 14 day return policy applies from the date of delivery. Your 15% waitlist discount does not affect your eligibility for returns or exchanges.
International Orders
Gateway to Africa ships internationally to customers outside the United States. International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or import fees charged by their country upon delivery. These charges are non-refundable and are not the responsibility of Gateway to Africa.
